Unfortunately, the much-touted Voice of Israel English-language radio station, that broadcast on the net, has closed down suddenly. Apparently its funding was withdrawn and it closed after only a year’s service. It had a great line-up of speakers and it was hoped that it would supplement the Israel Broadcasting (IBA) News programs, that may be forced to close due to the complete reorganization of the IBA that is under way.
On he other hand, i24news is an international 24-hour news and current affairs television channel based in Jaffa Port, Tel Aviv, Israel. It broadcasts in English, French and Arabic on the internet. The channel’s owner is Patrick Drahi, a French-Israeli entrepreneur, and the CEO is Frank Melloul, who previously played a critical role in establishing the French 24-hour news channel France-24. Lucy Aharish, who is a Christian Arab, is one of the channel’s leading anchors.
Melloul has stated that one of his goals for the station is to change the international “point of view about Israel.” Although the station receives no funding from the Israeli government, Melloul has said that i24 will battle prejudice against, and ignorance about, Israel with “facts and diversity.”
Ladies and gentlemen, this is what we have been wanting for a long time, a competitor to Al Jazeera that is not biased against Israel, but that reports the news without any slant against Israel. Those of us who have suffered from BBC, Sky News and others, now have an alternative. i24news is available on-line and I strongly suggest we use it. Let others know about it, there is nothing like word of mouth to expand the audience. Remember, this is not biased for Israel, but is rather a news source that can be relied upon to be balanced in reporting the news objectively. Hopefully soon it will be broadcast around the world.
